DESIGNART TOKYO 2019

DESIGNART TOKYO 2019 took place in Tokyo from October 18th to 27th, as a festival to feel art and design in our daily life. It expanded its area to Ginza and Shinjuku along with Harajuku, Omotesando, Aoyama and Roppongi. 390 creators/brands and 147 exhibitors, who participated in the event, welcomed 20,000 visitors for 10 days.

DESIGNART TOKYO was founded in 2017 by 6 people from 5 groups, to share and industrialise creativity from Tokyo. Tokyo is the world-leading cultural city where art and design (architecture, interior, product, fashion, technology) gathers. DESIGNART TOKYO is an innovative activity for utilising shops and galleries to create a great variety of presentations.

“1% for Art” has taken place at World Kitaaoyama Building, functioned as an information center of this event. It is a program funding 1% of the construction project to install public art, which is already a major movement happening in the US and Europe. A Hungarian curator Zsofia Ilosvai, the organiser of Design Pier, has curated specially for DESIGNART TOKYO.

Ryan L Foote (Hong Kong/Melbourne) has set up the installation of the glittering columns. They are placed in between the selected works from Asia, all created under the concept of public and art. The number of columns is responsive to the number of countries participating in this event. It depicts harmony by connecting each column on the floor surface. Furthermore, the mirror reflects the colors surrounding the space, which expresses the colorfulness and richness of the city.
