The first ceremony of the Media Art Festival that is organised by the Agency for Cultural Affairs was held at Opera City in Shinjuku. The festival was set up in order to support and develop game software, CGs, animation, cartoon etc.

The winners are as follows;
– Kage by Hajime Chikamori
– I.Q, a game software for Sony Playstation
– Final Fantasy, a game software made by Square
– Sora ni tokeru tuki ni naritai
(I want to be the moon that melts in the sky by Synergy Kikagaku)
– image dive, a web site by Hirojazu Nagafuji
