Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker & Rosas: “Bitches Brew / Tacoma Narrows”, ゥ Herman Sorgeloos

The Vienna ImPulsTanz Festival, with its numerous workshops and events, is a major highlight of Vienna’s summer programme. Participants and audiences flock to Vienna from all over the world – the programme is accordingly colourful.

ImPulsTanz aims to give a broad overview of the international contemporary dance scene and this year presents some 29 dance productions and 5 film screenings in Vienna’s most beautiful theatres.

DV8 Physical Theatre / Lloyd Newson: “The Cost of Living”, ゥ Jimmy Pozarik

This year’s festival is opened at Volkstheater by the most recent production of the Canadian company La La La Human Steps – “Amelia “, a captivating piece full of breathtaking speed and explosive dynamics.

The Burgtheater stage will feature the dancers of the British DV8 Physical Theatre: Lloyd Newson’s choreography “The Cost of Living” is a humorous manifesto celebrating humanity – an attack against all cold perfectionism, turned into extraordinary images and excellent dance.

Wim Vandekeybus & Ultima Vez: “Blush”, ゥ Jean-Pierre Stoop

For lovers of music ImPulsTanz 2003 offers two special highlights: “Blush” by Wim Vandekeybus & Ultima Vez and “Bitches Brew/Tacoma Narrows” by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, which features the music of Miles Davis and will be shown in a German-speaking country for the first time ever.

The radical, uncompromising dance statements of French choreographers Boris Charmatz and Alain Buffard will also be staged in Vienna. Recent developments in France, the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria and others will be presented in the course of the [8:tension] performance series for young choreographers.

The workshop & reserach series paralleling the festival offers more than 150 seminars to active dancers, from beginners to professionals. Ballet, modern dance, contemporary dance, HipHop, Afro, Jazz and Yoga are but a few of the styles to be taught. This year, apart from longterm teachers, the workshop will welcome some new representatives of the Westcoast dance scene.
