For more than thirty years the Fondation Cartier invites visitors to experience contemporary art and though exhibitions that are demanding and accessible. From commission to exhibition, the Fondation Cartier has provided long-term support to a wide range of artists, such us Rymond Depardon, William Eggleston, Raymond Hains, and Pierrick Sorin. With themes as varied as shamanism, mathematics, and voodoo, it has constantly encouraged inquisitiveness, explored unexpected subjects and sparked lasting conversations between groups as diverse as artists, scientists, and Amazonian Indians.

The Collection of the Fondation Cartier is the most direct expression of Cartier’s patronage and keeps sourcing and colleting contemporary artworks constantly. In fact, some of these artworks were originally created for a specific exhibition and finally entered the collection. Another interesting characteristic of this contemporary art collection is its diversity, spanning nearly 1400 works by more than 350 around 50 different countries. This shows the many relationships now established between the Foundation and many contemporary artists. Hence Cartier’s collection can be seen as a good representation of contemporary art today.

In addition to the art space in Paris, the Fondation Cartier has also organized numerous tours of its exhibitions to cities around the globe including Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Copenhagen, and Rio de Janeiro. This is another example of the Fondation’s endeavor to care for the artists, to promote inquisitiveness, freedom, originality, singularity and pluralism.
