BURRED EDGES: 12 DAYS OF MODERN MUSIC IN HAMBURG

HAPPENINGText: Gudrun Rau

I had lots of associating impressions related to the harpsichord’s sound, always thinking of Fennesz’s incredible song “Before I Leave” or 80s synthesizer music.

Yes, I know, it should be the other way round: Fennsz reminding me of Reich and Reich reminding me of Bach but somehow my perception is always inverted.
However, this was the intention of Michael Petermann who wants the spectators to get a new impression of ancient music, maybe listening to it with “new ears”.

After the concert, which lasted about an hour, the spectators had some coffee or juice and the option to talk to the performers which produced some background knowledge as you can see in this article… To me this was an inspiring afternoon in a somewhat surreal but enjoyable atmosphere.

Martin Gonschorek (flute) and Michael Petermann (harpsichord and MIDI-sequencing) are part of the formation “Weisser Rausch“.

The festival was presented bei the Association For Modern Music Hamburg which features more interesting events ranging “from improvisation, and electronic music to Avantgarde-Rock-Punk-Djing and laptop do-it-yourselfers”.
