The Japan Photo Award, a photography award established to promote new Japanese talents to the world, is now accepting applications. Deadline for submissions will be on 17th February.

Starting in 2013, the Japan Photo Award has received a cumulative total of 6,000 applicants, making it the largest independent photography award in Japan. The jury includes leading gallerists, curators, and editors worldwide, providing opportunities for enthusiastic people who aspire to work abroad.

Past winners of the award include Fumi Ishino (2015), Kohey Kanno (2016), Koji Ishikawa (2017), So Mitsuya (2018), and Hiromichi Hata (2019), who have steadily expanded their activities to the world through their affiliation with galleries, publication of photo books, solo exhibitions at famous overseas museums, collaborations with international fashion brands, and the collection of the Hermes Foundation and Prada Foundation.

This year, winners’ works will be published in a book, which will be sold at museums and bookstores in Japan and abroad, as well as at the NY Art Book Fair, one of the world’s largest art book fairs, held at MoMA PS1 (New York).
Also winners will have a chance to exhibit their works at KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+ (Kyoto International Photography Festival).
