A California-based Japanese calligrapher/artist who is active in many parts of the world as a “bridge between different cultures”, Aoi Yamaguchi’s solo Exhibition “In-Ei: The Resonance of Shadows” will be held at Cross Hotel Sapporo from February 20th, as Machinaka Art X_edition vol.19 which has been held by the hotel and Clark Gallery + SHIFT.

As learned calligraphy at the age of 6 in Hokkaido and traveled to United States in 2004, now she announces her “contemporary Japanese calligraphy”, as a professional young Japanese calligrapher. For this time which it will be the first time in Hokkaido to hold a large-scale solo exhibition and to present the live performance, she is to exhibit contemporary and avant-garde Japanese calligraphy works with an image of poem that she wrote by 3 points of view as “color”, “sound” and “emotion” about “The Resonance of Shadows”, which we feel in a moment and space, and which we see in the calligraphy world.

On February 19th, in conjunction with the opening reception, she will perform conceptual live calligraphy in collaboration with Corey Fuller (12k / Illuha), a Tokyo-based musician / multimedia artist who newly wrote music for this exhibition. Please enjoy its deep themed-world of the Resonance of Shadows with her performance, as she said “through my long living abroad; precisely because the same reason, even more, I could feel the flowing blood that admires the sense of ‘beauty’, a Japanese culture uniqueness”.
