The book covers 2D and 3D graphic arts, illustrations, photography, kids play, board games, sticker and writing from over 50 worldwide renowned artists, including Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Europe and the North Americas. Because of the different background of different artists, you can find their many different ways to show their past childhood and existent surrounding.
The concept of kids is once again wrapped up by the package idea of the book. Victor Cheung, the key artist in Victionary, has developed an idea to use soft foam for the cover. The whole ‘Design For Kids’ is covered by the soft Styrofoam with attractive Neon colour of orange, yellow or blue to choose from. It is just like a baby toy which will not hurt you easily. It seems to tell you that this book is so gentle for everyone! What’s more surprising inside? You can find a toy gun buried in the die-cut area of the book.
In view of the launch of ‘Design For Kids’, an exhibition called ‘DFK Toy Exchange Exhibition’ is going to be held. Victionary collaborated with Basheer Design Books and a group of local Hong Kong artists to form this playful DFK Toy Exchange Exhibition, in order to extend the spirit of “Design For Kids” from their kid-self to toy. The eight well-known Hong Kong designers/artists, namely Calvin Ho (DJ / Graphic / Web Designer), Craig Au Yeung (Writer / comic artist), Gary Chang (Architect), Susie Au (MV Director), Pachino Wan (Fashion Designer), Siu Hak (Illustrator / comic artist) The Pancakes (independent musician) and Wing Shya (Photographer / graphic designer), were invited to bring one of their precious toy to exhibit and call for exchange. Visitors are also invited to display their toy during the exhibition. This exhibition is about an exchange of toys between the artists and visitors. Meanwhile, all the interesting and unique stories about each of the toys will be gathered and recorded for the booklet published after the exhibition.
Got an interesting toy already beneath your bed? Why not take it out now and share with the others. Don’t leave it with dust!
