Since its opening in 2007, Cross Hotel Sapporo has been giving a series of art exhibitions named “ART X” at the ground floor entrance hall. This year in collaboration with SHIFT, the ART X will feature the Hokkaido-based artists.
The exhibition also consists of the very first edition of the Machinaka Art project, aiming to fill the city with art and to create friendly environment for citizens to familiarize with the art, with the participation of galleries, artists and shops.
Go Yayanagi born in Obihiro, Hokkaido in 1933. Since ’60s he has given numbers of individual exhibitions and gained international fame. In ’70s, he started expanding his activities from 2D to 3D, fashion, architecture, environmental art, further more on moving images. Today he is as active as always.
POP UKI is a word invented by Yayanagi himself, referring to the Japanese Ukiyo-e and the pop culture as witness of the contemporary society. The exhibition will show Yayanagi’s works summarized with clear outlines, vivid colors and dynamic stripes. There will also be scarfs and T-shirts sold that are created in collaboration with Junko Koshino.
