DIESEL HOME COLLECTION INSTALATION PROJECT

KEIKO + MANABU 'MAGIC TENT'

This is a collaborative project between typical rock and chic products by DIESEL, interior designers and architects. The designs are updated every 3 months during the one year of exhibition period. The 1st instalment begun on August 20th in 2011 at DIESEL SHIBUYA, Tokyo. The starter for this project will be KEIKO+MANABU, an architecture team based in Tokyo and Seattle.

They have previously worked in producing the DIESEL DENIM GALLERY in Aoyama and they have a reputation with their unique and pop style. For this instalment, they have used a 2.8m tall mirror for their creation with the theme of ‘Magic Tent’ that is nor hexagon or octagon but a zig zag shaped mysterious object. Mirrors are placed facing each other to create the feeling of a circular stage. Straight lines are drawn on the object using florescent pink, dark blue and florescent green-yellow cutting tapes. Accordingly, the feeling that is given from the object is somewhat circus-like even though there are no clowns and ballons.

The mirror, which has marine blue and dark blue stripes, creates chic impression within its pop appearance and the reflected spotlight excites the performer who is about to change his or her clothes and get on to the stage.

This installation utilizes the mirrors and the colors with their exquisite creation sense. It would be a good idea to have a look at this installation, which is a project that will continue for a year, when you are around Shibuya as it is possible to see the installment as long as the shop is still open.
