The solo exhibition “Boundary” by Julie Alpert based in Seattle will open at SOIL Art Gallery from April 4th to 27th , 2013.
New watercolors and site-specific installation use intricate hand-painted pattern to explore physical boundaries: boundaries of the paper’s edge, boundaries of the individual patterns, and the invisible boundary between viewer and work.
Through emphasis on shadows, negative shape, flatness, and illusion I explore our physical and psychological relationships to built environments. Constructed moments frozen in time ask the viewer to confront ideas about boundaries and space as the work spills off the wall and onto the floor.
