Machinaka Art Cross Edition will present group exhibition “MYSTIQUES” curated by SHIFT at Cross Hotel Sapporo from December 5th, 2011 to February 29th, 2012.

Since its opening in 2007, Cross Hotel Sapporo has been giving a series of art exhibitions named “ART X” at the ground floor entrance hall. This year in collaboration with SHIFT, the ART X will feature the Hokkaido-based artists.

The exhibition also consists of the very first edition of the Machinaka Art project, aiming to fill the city with art and to create friendly environment for citizens to familiarize with the art, with the participation of galleries, artists and shops.

Following the first exhibition by Go Yayanagi from Obihiro and the second exhibition by an art duo “Wabisabi”, the third exhibition “MYSTIQUES” will introduce the work of artists from Hokkaido. A hotel, as a place existing between ordinary and unordinary life, becomes an entrance to the mysterious and fantastic world.

Hokkaido will have lots of snow and will enter the coldest period soon. During that period, what kind of impression will the works of Hokkaido-based artists give to the visitors? We would like you to enjoy the diverse expressions of artists who were born in contemporary Hokkaido.
