MAYA MAXX “COME HERE, LOVE IS HERE”

HAPPENINGText: Atsuko Kobayashi

Known as a painter who drew the cover of ‘Junior Sweet’ by Chara and Honey Moon by Banana Yoshimoto, MAYA MAXX, the originator of the recent boom of cute and punkish illustrations, through this exhibition.

“There’s evil, lies and the ugly in this world… therefore I have those negative elements inside… but, I’d like to believe myself and this world just like a dog does” says MAYA MAXX.

While viewing her paintings, one can’t help feeling turbulant emotions raising inside and sentiments and eventually find themselves feeling love produced by her series of works.

The exhibition features her paintings and drawings made in ’97 and all of them were displayed in a large frame of 2 meters square, painted with watercolours, air brush and crayon. Her other works are availlable on the web and CD-Rom.
