CAREY DENNISTON "OH, DOMAIN"
NEWSText: kazumi oiwa
PUNCH presents “Oh, domain,” large-scale color photographs by Carey Denniston from October 2nd to November 1st, 2008.
Drawing from Guy Debord’s 1954 writings in the field of psychogeography, the photographs reveal the dynamic relationship between resident and residence, and the penetrating effects of space on the psyche.
Here, Denniston sides with the Situationists’ theory, that our cultural and physical influences create a subconscious undertow, wherein we are driven into a formulated pattern of behavior. In Oh, domain, we see the perspective of the resident responding to such restrictions – at times yielding, and at other times, with force.
