The Sapporo Winter Sports Museum is located at the foot of the Okurayama Jump Stadium at 307 meter elevation, where the large hill ski jump contests were held during the Sapporo Winter Olympics in 1972. Opened in 2000, the museum consists of 2 main zones: one is the Exhibit Zone which showcases the historical goods and resources of winter sports and the Sapporo Winter Olympics, as well as the history of the previous official posters of the Winter Olympics, and another is the Sensation / Experience Zone where features attractions that allow you to “experience the world” which only the athletes know.

Going inside the entrance of the round building on the second floor and looking around the various exhibits showcased, I run to the downstairs to go through the simulated experience. Here I found simulators and devices that allow you to experience winter sports.
As for the ski jump experience, there is the Take Off Timing Simulator which gives you a jump timing experience with different wind speed so that people can create different jump distance records every time. As for the figure skating, the Figure Skate Spin Simulator gives you an amazing experience rotating with ultra super high speeds. And the rests are Ice Hocky Goal Keeper Simulator, Speed Skate Training, Bobsled Riding Simulator and Cross-Country Race, that each of all giving the idea of the winter sports from the athlete’s perspective.

There is another way to spend a fantastic moment visiting the Sapporo Winter Sports Museum, visiting to the Okurayama Jump Stadium. Among other ski jump stadiums in Sapporo, the Okurayama Jump Stadium is the platform that was used for the Large Hill ski jump game of the Sapporo Olympics. The stadium is still utilized for national and international ski jump events. Going up to the start point of the ski jump by riding a lift to the observation lounge will present you with a dynamic view of Sapporo city. A Must visit!
