MILANO SALONE 2008
The last one I visited was Satellie. This is the trade fair where potential young designers exhibit their pieces. This can be, in a sense, the most exciting exhibition. Actually, many well-known designers made his/her debut in this exhibition.
This drawer has sliding bar locks. Locks are normally with keys and hidden but this interesting design intentionally shows the lock and emphasise it with vivid colours.
The work of AAVA, Sweden.
The work by a Japanese designer, Junio Design. This chair is made from one sheet of steel.
The work by Thomas Walde from POSTFOSSIL. The design concept is the fusion of sport and furniture. You can work out at home like in this picture.
Keiji Ashizawa
Being shed light, the reflector becomes the light itself in this work. Indirect lighting inside the light!? Curving line of reflector is superb.
The product which integrates bench and bicycle stand. In the sidewalk, it can work as a bench, but at the place where there are many bicycles, it may be used only as a bicycle stand…. For some who keeps a bicycle in the house, it may become the groovy interior.
This is the work by Belgian designers. These are stools made by compressed material used for mop. It’s an environmentally friendly product made of recycled material.
There were other products in their booth with concept of reuse and recycle which attracted the visitors.
After Salone closed, Milan went back to normal.
Things have really been hectic during Salone. But spending time surrounded by innovative designs, I truly had a wonderful time.
Renting a bicycle was the key to visit each exhibition efficiently. It helped me to be very adaptable to any narrow streets of Milan. The only problem was rough stone pavement….. Why don’t you try the bicycle experience if you are planning to visit next year’s Salone?
