THE 5TH BERLIN BIENNALE

HAPPENINGText: Yoshito Maeoka

Schinkel-Pavillon, set up in Schinkel Academy of Architecture, is the octagonal building designed by Ricardo Paulick. It has an eclectic style somewhere between classicism and old German modernism. 5 exhibitions are given in the form of young curators picking up the works of old artists.

Now then, on the other performance − “night session” entitled “Mes nuits sont plus belles que vos jours (My night is more beautiful than your daytime)”, 63 performances are produced throughout Berlin every night except Monday during the session, which include performances, concerts, workshops, and others. Particularly notable is the workshop of Olaf Blanke, a well-known neurologist for his near-death experience, suggested by Melvin Moti and the collaboration of Camero Jamie’s films and Keiji Haino’s music.

5th Berlin Biennale

Here I would like to suggest to those who are going to visit the Berlin Biennale that if you have sufficient time to spare, you should reserve a hotel in Berlin for a week across the weekend. It would be rather good to stay at a hotel with a kitchen to cook than at expensive one, so that you can replicate the environment of your daily life.

I recommend you to visit some of the night programs, appreciating the exhibition, and sometimes relax and have a party. In doing so, scenes of the exhibition will blend and become a part of your daily life, which will impress on you some spectacular images of surprise such as great performances and accidental encounters.

Why don’t you regard this exhibition as a part of the scenery of the city? I re-realized in it the importance of such experiences.
