111 MINNA GALLERY

Located in the convenient downtown South of Market, 111 Minna Gallery offers a unique interactive space where art, music and dance are fused in multi-levels of entertainment. From the distinctive red door entrance to the back door, 111 Minna exhibits new art work on every wall. But 111 Minna presents more than art. With its cutting-edge selections of paintings, the gallery turns into one of the hippest night clubs in the city every night.
The main gallery space becomes a dance floor, equipped with a DJ booth, movie projectors, and a small stage for live performances. Dance freaks can move to the latest beat and view the latest in San Francisco art simultaneously. Each night varies with DJ’s spinning from drum and bass, deep house, dub, rare groove to hip hop. Along with the DJ sets, different themes are presented for each party with occasional live bands and motion pictures projected on the wall. For the thirsty audience, 111 Minna Gallery also has a decent sized bar between the entrance and the main room.
Compared with other sweaty dance clubs, 111 Minna Gallery draws an eclectic crowd, from arty couples dressed in all black who maybe a bit too seriously discuss the quality of the art on the walls over pints of beer, to casual rave kiddos who want only to dominate the dance floor. Despite the loud DJ sets the mood can be somewhat laid back and relaxing, with a lounge-like space furnished with lots of sofas to sit back and chill out. Whether dancing, downing cocktails or viewing art, the atmosphere has an unrestricted feel so that each individual enjoys the space in his/her own way. 111 Minna allery creates a freeform space that truly allows for “different strokes for different folks” under one roof.
