Reichi Hayashida was born in Manchuria in 1933 and had lived in different places like Dalian, Shanghai, Qingdao, Seoul and so on when he was a boy. As a memory that kept the chaos of the past, he started drawing his pop art through his self-study from his 40s. It has become a long-standing road movie painting from his withdrawal to the defeated Japan to his arrival in Hokkaido. Then he continues his creative works energetically even at the age of 83.

His collage art works using advertisement posters and Knick Knacks etc, semi-three-dimensional pop art using board and etc, suddenly took the spotlight because it won the excellent prize of the KIRIN ART AWARD in 2001, and he also won international art awards one after another in recent years. Not only as “pop art” but also for the field of “Earl Brut” is getting interests worldwide. His art works are expected to increase appreciation in the future.
