Watari-um in Tokyo holds Sion Sono’s first exhibition “The Whispering Star”, a film director who is prominent domestically and abroad. As he founded his independent production company, the ambitious film work was born from his true feelings, “The Whispering Star.”
Being a regular participant of international film festivals as an expressive individual, he has also shown his talent across various genres through publishing a picture book, hosting the controversial guerrilla performing collective “Tokyo Ga Ga Ga” which continuously hacked the streets of Tokyo in the beginning of the 90’s, And performing in a comic duo with Suidobashi Hakase.
For this show, Sion Sono has expanded the intentions that he was unable to fully express in his film into a spatial artwork as an installation. And oresents a major projection work with figures in silhouette, a number of 555 storyboards which he drew in his apartment 25 years before, and new works such as the “Hachiko Project” which emerged from his street performance “Tokyo Ga Ga Ga”. Until July 10th.
