This month sees the publication of ‘The Quarantine Series Book‘ published in association with the Quarantine Series exhibitions programme, held between June 2003 and June 2004 in Amsterdam. An initiative of the Loods 6 Foundation, it was the brainchild of curator, Nina Folkersma, and featured an interesting choice of international contemporary art, sound art, pop culture, film, video, typography and graphic design.

The book is a great overview of the work produced (all of which was made especially for the project spaces) plus it contributes to the debate about innovative exhibition spaces for contemporary art. Taking into account the experiences of Quarantine Series and other related art institutes (such as Palais de Tokyo, Paris), the book explores further the idea of ‘social areas’ as exhibition spaces.

‘The Quarantine Series Book’ features text by Nina Folkersma, special guest interviews, a literary contribution by Oscar van den Boogaard and a piece about typedesign by Peter Bil’ak plus typography by Dutch graphic designer, Luna Maurer. Do keep an eye out for it.
