CHISATO SHINYA

PEOPLEText: Naoko Fukushi

Where do you usually get inspiration?

Trees or mountains which I can see from my windows. Movies. I also get inspired from people I meet. Basically, it’s from everywhere.

How do you create/draw your works?

Mainly, I use tablet on Adobe Illustrator. I try not to use much colours. Basically, I like using many colours. I even get excited to just see 48colour set pastel and it makes me feel like using all colours… and the result would be crazy.

You are broadening your working field internationally as shown in your participation in the Japanese art exhibition “GIGEI” in Singapore, 2003 or contribution to “Grimm”. Do you have anything in mind you want to challenge from now on?

I would like to make an original illustrated book. Some wonderful stories were provided from my friends so it isn’t a long way to be completed. In this exhibition at Soso, drawing is the main thing but I also would like to do solid works, not using computer.

Could you tell me the concept of the cover design this month?

A collaboration CD, which sound is made by Kentaro Hamasato and which sleeve is designed by Kimiyoshi Futori and I is sold during Imagine Story exhibition exclusively. But its CD quality is amazingly good both in sound and the sleeve and I was thinking it is a waste to use them only for the CD, then Shift suggested me to use it as the cover design for Shift then it realised. I was a big fan of Kimiyoshi and also love Kentaro’s unique sound so it was happy accident for me to be able to collaborate with them for Shift cover. Thank you Shift!

Please pass the message to Shift reader.
