Ars Electronica ’97, an exhibition on art and digital, was held in Linz, Austria. The number of participants from Japan has been getting larger over the last few years. This year Ryuichi Sakamoto & Toshio Iwai, sensosium and damtype took part in the exhibition. Ryuichi Sakamoto & Toshio Iwai and sensosium won the gold prize. “Kage”(or shadow) by Motoshi Chikamori, a graduate at Tsukuba Univ, has been selected to remain at the exhibitoin space for another half year, due to a good reputation for the work.

After a half year’s exhibition in Linz, it will be on show in a series of exhibitions in Europe; SONAR, a digital art exhibition in Barcelona, VIPER, a techno event in Switzerland, Exhibition Universe 2000 in Hanover, Germany and so on.

Tokyo Metropolitan Photography Museum is planning to hold an exhibition for his work next September. “Casting a shadow is a very proof of exsistence. I created this work so that people who see ‘kage’ can consider what their exsitence is”, Chakamori said.
