HIROAKI SUETSUGU “MONO”
NEWSText: Ayumi Yakura
A solo exhibition of Hiroaki Suetsugu will be held at Clark Gallery + SHIFT from November 1st to 23rd. He is creating conceptual abstract paintings and installlation works based in Hokkaido.
It is difficult to explain the abstract paintings by Hiroaki Suetsugu verbally. But in front of his work, you will feel something overwhelmingly and questioning from the screen quietly (in fact they have a willingness to roar). A peculiar screen that investigates the material properties of various pigments like chemical experiments and leave the pigment itself that makes the universe spread in the minimum.
In this exhibition, in the gallery of darkness, with the theme “mono” as the theme, he presents a group of works that express a situation showing different variations in “mono”, meaning “single” in English, such as mono type, monochrome, monogram, and mono (that means things in Japanese), and the human world. Like a monolith (a large slab of rock symbolizing the geology), develop new abstract paintings and installations symbolizing materiality.
*The artist’s goods which combine art, life and fashion with the work of Hiroaki Suetsugu as material for this exhibition will be on sale.
