2F is another vast room dedicated to Contemporary expression and the world of individual expression. Beyond the symbolic works of Kohei Nawa, the staircase from the first floor, which features sections dedicated to artists like Mika Tajima and Kenjiro Okazaki, leads visitors to the second floor. Here, a series of rooms showcase the visions of various international artists. Featured artists include Ryan Gander, who reinterprets the everyday world with irony; Tracey Emin and Louise Bourgeois, who capture the strength and suppleness of women in contemporary society; Theaster Gates, who addresses issues faced by minorities and communities; and leading minimalist artist Dan Flavin. The lineup also includes Ryoji Ikeda, Olafur Eliasson, Chiharu Shiota, Mika Tajima, teamLab, and Takashi Murakami. In the central room, works by two leading figures of contemporary German photography, Andreas Gursky and Thomas Ruff, are displayed in contrast. We welcome visitors to explore contemporary expressions that intersect across different media, means of expression, countries, and regions.

“Our vision for the museum is to embrace and promote artistic expression that transcends disciplines, showcasing diverse, personal, and social perspectives that spark the imagination. Art allows us to reflect on our past, present, and future, and the mission of our collection is to foster truly free imagination and original ideas through art. We aim to convey the perspectives and challenges that artists pose through their works to the next generation. By creating support opportunities for young artists and collaborating with educational institutions, the museum strives to contribute to the revitalization of the art scene. We aim to stay relevant and engaged with society through a wide range of activities, fostering a dynamic interaction between art and the community,” concludes Mr. Ueshima.
