STEREOGRAPHICS
THINGSText: Asami Miyamura
A new book “Stereographics” has been published in October, 2008 from a Hong Kong based publisher focusing on design and art, Victionary. Entitled Stereographics, with reference to the geometric term ‘stereography’ (art of picturing 3-D solid bodies on a 2-D plane). The tomb reveals how graphics makes its mark on the 3D realm through 4 inspiring case studies explaining each step with insights into problem-solving, plus a diverse collection of works from over 60 design units worldwide.
The cover work is designed by Jean Jullien. This work provide a strong impression to us by the geometric term with simply and bright colours.
On the first part of the book, you will find “Behind the Scenes” section which introduces the process of making works by 4 artists. It reveals the process making of the art work featured on the cover of the book. How exciting it is.
Then, you will find the 3 remaining sections of “Stages Set”, “Objects Installed” and “Types Constructed”. Here are our picks from the each section.
From “Stages Set” section, works by Dan Tobin Smith Studio Ltd. There are his many other works featured in this book, and I am fascinated especialy with thier works.
There is their own sense of gravity. Capturing a moment of its vigorous movement, I just keep imaging how this work continues to its end.
From “Objects Installed” section, works by Julien Vallée. There are many existing objects in the room. It seems to create something from existing objects is to give a new life to those objects.
From “Types Constructed” section, works by Corriette Schoenaerts known for her map art created by clothes. The works is collaborated with Harmen Liemburg for exhibitions. In the posters, they feely reflected upon the work of the exibitors.
This book give you an idea to create stereographics with enjoying visually and physically. I feel like to visit where they are in the middle of making the works. This book surely provides you the moment to enjoy the world of stereogpaphics which realize graphics turning into 3 dimentional reality.
