CHARLES WILKIN “INDEX A”

THINGSText: Sachiko Kurashina

There are many ways to express Charles Wilkin‘s greatness: great modern American typography designer; founder and a creative director of Automatic Art and Design company; and now, book subject. The book “Index A” of his works has just been released from Die Gestalten Verlag. This is his first portfolio book.

Charles Wilkin is a talented creator who rose to international fame through Automatic Art and Design” projects. His 50’s colour palettes and a fresh look at classic Americana brought him many prizes. You can find his work in “Imgsrc 100” produced by SHIFT as well. His work has been nominated to the Cooper Hewit National Design Award in USA. He has been attracting big clients, such as Coca-Cola and Adidas, with his great sense.

The book acts as a catalogue of his informal and dynamic vernacular, but also reminds of the importance and influence of individual expression in a commercial world. “Index A Exhibition” is at the gallery The Riviera in New York and runs through Sunday the 18th of May in celebration of the book’s release.
