Sakanaction hosted a new project/event “Night Fishing” on Thursday, July 2nd and Friday July 3rd at Ebisu LIQUID ROOM. This year was their first year ever to not play at any summer festivals, due to the pregnancy of the band’s Bassist Ami Kusakari. The band took this opportunity to actualize the idea of “introducing people to know more about jobs in music industry while they enjoy good music”.

This multi dimensional event included but was not limited to a club event, an art exhibition, and a talk show. Creators from various backgrounds have contributed to this event, and it already shows how different it was from any other music events in the past.

The club event consisted of Part 1 and Part 2; Part 1 took place at Timeout Café&Diner on the 2nd floor of LIQUID ROOM, and Part 2 at the main floor on the 1st floor. The band successfully created 2 distinct events at 2 different sized venues with different groove and distance between the artists and audience at the same time.

Part 1 was streamed live on Space Shower’s app, so all the fans who couldn’t make it to LIQUID ROOM should have also enjoy the show.

Rhizomatiks VJed Part 2 and they made the crowd go wild by perfectly unifying the Sakanaction’s world and the illumination.

The exhibition was held for 2 days. During the time, ANREALAGE’s clothes, which only shows its pattern when it’s exposed to UV ray, was shown at Gallery KATA on the 2nd floor of LIQUID ROOM. The outfit worn by Sakanaction members during “NEXT WORLD” from NHK Special aired in this past January was exhibited at the Gallery KATA as well.

The Exhibition “NF” was held simultaneously with a photographer Yoshiyuki Okuyama and an art director Yusuke Tanaka in addition to Ichiro Yamada of Sakanaction and a stylist Shinichi Mita as Creative Directors. The exhibition’s theme was “wearing photography”, and while showing the pieces, they also accepted reservation orders.

Also, the exhibition was such an exciting place for Sakanaction fans to enjoy with the elaborate displays such as visitors were able to experience what the members see with multiple MacBooks in line.

As the time went by, the atmosphere inside of the venue got more and more excited despite the rain outside.

Towards the end of this event, with an interesting question thrown by Yamaguchi, it turned out that nearly half of the crowd was the first time goers of any sort of a club event. It proves what the band is trying to achieve, which is aiming right in between of entertainment music and underground music.

It was such a memorable experience to see Yamaguchi at the DC booth during the last song “Good Bye”. He invited the rest of Team NF by waving at them; it almost looked like a parade of some sort and it was a defining moment of this whole event.

The band is planning of continuing the event in the future with some changes. Yamaguchi is secretly hoping to hold the 2nd event sometime in September this year. It makes us wonder what Sakanaction has in mind for us to experience in the future.
