88 & FLAVORED LAYERS “X”

HAPPENINGText: Erin Holloway

The screen display of each Designer’s laptop was projected on the club’s projection and liquid plasma screens, revealing their individual approaches to the creative objective. At the end of the event, the audience selected Heather Schmaedeke’s piece as the design that most creatively fulfilled the objective. The chosen design will be leveraged for next promotional poster, flyer, and web site splash page. Additionally, all chosen designs will be part of a high end coffee table book that will be published on demand by supporters of the X movement.

Fresh from participating in POOL in Las Vegas, De*Nada Design brought their latest collection of t-shirts and handbags for the Spring season. De*Nada showed up strong and left behind a lot of happy customers that were able to go home with something to remember the night by. I should know, I left with a new wardrobe and an empty wallet.

And if you were thinking that X was merely a one-off, as I did initially looking over the sheer volume of people participating, 88 and Flavored Layers hope to make this a regular affair. X is definitely DC’s answer to the lack of creativity focused, community building events and in the spirit 88’s motto…they plan on pushing every DC artist, designer, musician forward. So far they’ve made a hell of a start.
