TOKYO DESIGNERS BLOCK 2003

HAPPENINGText: Yasuharu Motomiya

Close to Roppongi Hills, was Super Deluxe Hotel by Klein Dytham architecture. Participating artists in this project were notables such as Jerszy Seymour and Marc Newson.

In the middle of the space, was a disco shower in which the shower shown with women in bathing suits. Each designer’s curtain room surrounded it and it looked like a very sexy hotel.

In the room in the above picture, named “Electro Merry Jane”, there were cushions on which women were printed by Jerszy Seymour. The huge green sofa in the picture below is by Mark Newson. Thus, a relaxing space for adults was created in each designer’s curtain room in this project.

A great variety of designers from all over the world exhibited their woks in Tokyo’s city blocks. Designers I introduced here are just a part of a whole, but the most important thing is not to visit and see whole works but to “feel” them for their sound, chairs, motion graphics or space of designs. TDB gives you the opportunity to enjoy designs dotted around “city” where you normally walk around not like in an art museum or gallery. Then it enables you to discover something new and to get inspiration.
