SEMI-PARMANENT 2003

HAPPENINGText: Nicola Stumpo

After a short sleep, the mornings after we were ready to attend the second day of the conference. The first speakers to open the day were the Baker brothers. Their works were stunning most video works from movie titles to music videos. Some highlights were their video documentary. Very funny.

After them it was the time for The Australian Infront crew. They showed us the Australia design scene showing very good works.

I have always wondered who was behind Rinzen. Their works are beautiful, reach in colors and full of humor. They showed an incredible amount of projects from print to video to clothes etc. They even made a party that night doing live VJ. Unfortunately Nando Costa could not attend the conference for some visa issues. So the DIK crew had to replace him. They could not choose a better person.

As Bradley (a.k.a. Gmunk) approached the stage I was already wondering what he was going to do. I know him from a long time now and I knew that he was going to make the people go crazy. Bradley showed many of his motion graphics and interactive works. He did it telling us every single story behind the scenes of his works. They were hysterically funny and made him receive the biggest applause of the conference.

After the well worth break we got back inside the hall to attend the last two spokes. Deanne Cheuk showed her beautiful and timeless illustrations, I remember that she showed us a lot of T-shirts designs for different companies that were beautiful.

The last speakers on stage were Amit and James from Presstube. Their presentation was great full of humor and incredible projects. I didn’t know that Amit was such a good programmer. What they can do together is unlimited. They mesmerized the crowd till the end.

As they finished all the speakers went on stage to say bye to the huge crowd. I just saw happy big smiling faces when the event was over. I think everyone was satisfied, but it could have not gone different. The DIK crew had everything planned out perfectly. And the event machine just run smoothly. What can I say more… next time if you can afford it don’t miss such an event.
