In March, 2020, Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will open MITSUKOSHI CONTEMPORARY GALLERY which is space specialized in contemporary art. Katsuhiko Hibino Exhibition “X-Department 2020” will be held as the gallery’s opening exhibition from March 18th, 2020.

This exhibition is while referring to the exhibition “Contemporary art of the X-Department de-domain” that Hibino held with Atsuhito Sekiguchi, Noriyuki Tanaka in Isetan Museum in 1991 that we think about “a de-domain” some other time after having passed through time for about 30 years.

“X-Department” of 1991 assumed the department store where a variety of sense of values lived together the stage and was the advanced exhibition which mentioned a way of thinking called private/public. We can meet a work of Hibino at various places of the department store including the work which did display and apparel and the collaboration of the shopwindow as well as Gallery space in this exhibition.
