This year’s creative theme for the Lexus Design Award 2018 is “CO-,” a Lexus’s philosophy (Collaboration, Coordination, Connection) which means, “By fusing multiple elements, the synergistic effect creates new value beyond established concepts and limits”. Review Standards require a deep understanding of the innovative “design” which can imagine a better future Lexus believes with its unique focus on the theme and its interpretation.

Lexus is excited to announce a new judge for the 2018 competition, Shigeru Ban. Renowned for his ingenious use of lightweight, unconventional and environmentally responsible materials — in particular, paper and bamboo — Shigeru is changing ideas about architecture. As a mentor, Formafantasma, Sou Fujimoto, Lindsey Adelman, Jessica Walsh is the new participant.

12 finalists will have their visions showcased to the world at Milan Design Week in 2018. Four of these finalists can receive direct feedback from the judges and up to 3 million yen is supported as a production cost of the prototype in cooperation with the global creators through mentorship. The Grand Price will be decided after the presentation and the final judging on the same venue. Please check the application details on our the official website.
