Taka Ishii Gallery Kyoto is pleased to present “Berlin,” an exhibition by Hanayo who is an artist based in Tokyo and Berlin from March 16th to April 20th, 2013.

This exhibition will feature images from Hanayo’s latest publication Berlin  hanayos saugeile kumpels, a massive collection of everyday images documenting her time spent with friends in the titular city.

Of the 15 years that Hanayo lived in Europe, 11 were spent in Berlin, which has become a very special place for her. The exhibition will comprise prints of various sizes and also include works not published in Berlin.

The color prints have a distinctive palette and offer subtle nuances that are unique to analog film. These features, which have been manifest since her earliest works, link seemingly disparate images such as portraits of artist and musician friends, everyday landscapes, and abstract images, and give them a mysterious “Hanayo-like” air.
