The first solo retrospective exhibition of Akira Kataoka, Akira Kataoka:Hyperdimensional Art and “Hyotan-Jima” is held at the Ikeda Museum of 20th Century Art located in Ito, Shizuoka.

Akira Kataoka is well known artist for his creation of puppets for TV puppet show called “Hyokkori Hyotan-Jima” (NHK, 1964-67) at “The Puppet Theater Hitomi-za”. He has produced many art works besides making puppets for the “Hitomi-za” and presented his works at various galleries and museums.

He is very fruitful and and his changing style of works are extraordinary. He has created the works crossing the border of 2 dimensions and 3 dimensions, characterized with his sense of humor. This exhibition showcases his puppets and art works and aims to reveal Kataoka’s extraordinary power of creation .
