Hosting Art and Artists.
Situated in the East-ends Old Bethnal Green Road, the Hotel Gallery has established itself not only as a gallery of substantial exhibitions, but also a home for artists.
Directors Darren Flook and Christabel Stewart, opened up their home as an exhibition gallery space in 2003. As well as a gallery opening a gallery, they opened up a lodging space for artists.
Artists were invited to stay in the upper levels of the home while preparing the production of their project, which where then featured on the ground floor gallery.
It was with these humble origins that the Hotel Gallery established itself as not only a space to exhibit art, but as a place for artists to nurture their creativity.
From these non-commercial beginnings the gallery has gone on to exhibit more established artists while still hosting and nurturing artists working with the gallery as well as with other established London based art institutions.
Today Hotel’s reputation boasts such artists as Richard Kern and Peter Saville, and exhibits in major international Art Fairs (i.e. Basel and the Armory Show in New York), yet it still retains its initial vibe as a place where creativity, viewing and community all combine and mingle.
It is this essential grounding, that the home opened up as a gallery and lodging in the vibrant East-end of London is still a place of dwelling and a center for creativity and inspiration while being at the forefront of the London art scene.
The Current Exhibition “Ritual In The Dark” is a collaboration between artist Alan Michael and Stephen Sutcliffe. The exhibition represents an exchange of material focusing on an early work of the young writer Colin Wilson.
