TOKION

Spearheading the Tokyo’s underground scene, a new type of bilingual mag, TOKION, has launched its web site, including the past issues’ content such as Fashion, Comics, Music, Art and People.

TOKION was first released in Sept ’96. Originally started by 3 members, Lucas Badtke-Berkow, then contributing editor of the Japan Times, Adam Glickman, a Japanese comic Otaku and Hideo Obara who worked in the field of TV and radio. Later, Morisato joined them as an art director. After intensive study about media, adverts and distribution, they successfully got it published and started selling it at major music shops and bookstores in Japan.

As Obara says, it was quite rare for a magazine to be made by American and Japanese featuring both English and Japanese. The originality of the content must have made the bilingual mag become popular so much as it is sold in the U.S, the U.K, France, Taiwan as well as Japan.

For the web site, it’ll further try hard to have content exclusively for the net by putting up sound files, featuring information about their TV programme on MXTV, a forthcoming event in cooperation with MO’WAX label in Nov and so on.
