Fashion is a reflection of both our society and our times, and therefore, on 18th June Madrid’s Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia opened an exhibition organised by the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Science and Technology, dedicated to Spanish fashion. This is a large sample that will occupy 1,100 square meters of the museum and whose exhibition outline has been entrusted to cinema director Gonzalo Suarez.

Elio Berhanyer

Through its 350 articles, some of them exhibited physically and others in audio-visual format, the sample offers us a journey through the present and future of Spanish fashion via the work of our companies and designers, both the well established and the up and coming. Empires such as Camper and Zara, two of our most successful brands in the international market, and who are clear proof of the peak of Spanish design in the world, have also got spaces here.

Pertegaz

The exhibition will be divided into four large sections: tailoring, shoes, accessories, jewellery and costume jewellery, and the work of more than 180 designers and brands will be on show, from classics of the Spanish fashion industry such as Cristobal Balenciaga and Pertegaz, to young designers such as David Delfin, Custo, Miguel Adrover, Amaya Arzuaga…

Armand Basi

Following their exhibition in Madrid’s Reina Sofia, the exhibition will travel to various cities, both in Spain (Galicia, Valencia and Barcelona) and abroad, since, by 2005, there are plans to take the samples to the great international fashion centres: Paris, London, Milan and Berlin. And indeed, one of the main intentions of this exhibition is to contribute to the foreign promotion of Spanish fashion.
