As with previous years, the more edgy and perhaps the truer side of the art world was to be found outside of the convention centre.

Outdoor installations like Jaume Plensa’s gargantuan “Nomade” sculpture and Claude Lévêque’s illuminated “Scarface” made stunning impressions against the back-drop of South Beach’s Art Deco façade.

Boris Hoppek at Scope Art Fair

Over in Miami’s ghetto (a.k.a the “Wynwood Art District”), the Scope Art Fair again won our personal prize for best satellite. We were delighted to hap upon several friends there including el Boris Hoppek who’s giant cardboard installation graced the main entrance while his buxom spray-painted ladies provided a picturesque backdrop.

Antistrot installation, Scope Art Fair

Barcelona’s own Iguapop Gallery was representing for the first time, and our friends from Rotterdam, Antistrot painted the town (well, their booth) in their signature neons and messed up comic-book characters. Finally, the twisted taxidermic creations in recycled tyre by Yong Ho Ji were breath-taking, dark and beautiful. We predict a bright future for this young Korean artist.
