Located in the old wooden-built white-painted house with massive stone made exterior wall, a hair salon Kamiya has been a hub for creative people趣のある札幌軟石の外壁が印象的な建物に居を構える美容室「華宮」は、1987年に札幌に店を構えて以来、多くの顧客に愛され、また常にクリエイティブに関心のある人が多く集まる場所となっている。その人気の理由のひとつは、華宮で長年、店長として務める渡辺ヒサシ氏がこの場所を支え盛り上げてきたからなのだろう。渡辺氏は、ギャラリーも併設するユニークな美容室という人が集まる場所で、美容という視点から表現をすることを追求している。
まずはじめに自己紹介をお願いします。
渡辺ヒサシ。1979年、北海道美唄市生まれ。札幌の美容院「華宮」で働き10年。店長を務めています。
美容師を目指したきっかけを教えてください。
小さい頃から手先を使う事が大好きでした。とにかく興味を持ったものや、欲しいものは自分で作ってみたくて、絵を描く事から、彫刻、料理まで、真似てみたり考えたりしながら、色々なものを作って遊んでいました。保育園の頃には、ほうきを三つ編みにして遊んでいた事を覚えています。今思うと、これが一番始めの美容への意識かもしれませんね。
そして中学生になり、ファッションへの興味を強く持つようになりました。その頃も、買ってきた古着だったり、親の昔の服なんかを引っ張りだしては、切ったり縫ったりして、自分の形にするなどして手を加えていましたね。そんな興味は自然とヘアスタイルにも向いて行きました。髪を切るという行為と、それによる自分の変化と、それはとても楽しく、気持ちのいいものでした。この時に将来は美容師になろうと決めましたね。
高校に入るとその想いは強くなり、友人達の髪も切るようになりました。自分が楽しんでする行為で、友人達が喜んでくれる事は本当に面白く、高校の間に、友人やその紹介で、のべ60人位の髪を切らせてもらいました。そしてこの頃に、今働いている華宮との出会いはありました。姉に紹介されたのをきっかけに通うようになったのですが、何だか不思議な空間で行く度にワクワクとする所でしたね。
その後美容学校にも行くようになり、縁があって華宮で働けるようになり、今へと至っています。
華宮について教えてください。
華宮は愛情溢れる、都会の中のオアシスのようなサロンです。お客様に喜んでもらうというのはもちろんの事、スタッフ達も本当に楽しく仕事をしています。
現在は隣り合った二つの店舗があり、古い木造の建物の「華宮」と、その隣りのマンションの１階に華宮の「HANARE（はなれ）」があります。どちらの店舗も手作り感のある、とてもあたたかみのある心地よい空間になっています。
華宮の一角にはギャラリー「ニュースター」もあり、若手アーティストの方を中心に、様々なジャンルの作品を見る事ができます。
身近な所でこのように作品を見る事が出来るのは、刺激にもなり、楽しませて頂いています。そして何よりも、この場所があることにより、様々な人との出会いや、人と人とのつながりを感じることができましたね。
この10年で札幌の美容／ファッションにどのような変化がありましたか？
全体的におしゃれな人が増えたように感じます。インターネット等、情報の充実によるものかもしれませんが、東京じゃないとだとか、札幌だからとか、そういう事があまり無くなってきたのかもしれませんね。
今後やってみたいことなどありますか？
美容師として普段から意識しているのが、シンプルなものでも、個性的なものでも、そこにスパイスのように手を加える事で、その人の内面や気持ちに、少しでも変化をもたらす事ができればと思っています。
見た目の変化は、ただの見た目だけの変化ではありません。美容師はヘアースタイルをつくることだけでなく、そこにたくさんの可能性のある仕事だと思っています。これからもその可能性を追い続け、表現する事が出来ればと思っています。
札幌でおすすめスポットを教えて下さい。
滝野すずらん公園：シャワーの音やシャンプーの音など、水の流れる音が好きなので、川が流れ、滝まであるこの公園はとても好きな所です。公園内にはキレイな花がたくさんの所や、遊具、パークゴルフなどもあり、運動不足の解消にもなります。キャンプ場もあるので、近場で気軽にキャンプなんていうのもオススメです。
花保ギャラリー双子山：双子山にある、とても素敵なお花屋さん。お店の外観や内装をみても、ギャラリーという名のとおり、アート感覚のある魅力的な空間です。自宅用に買っても、とてもセンスのよいラッピングで、ちょっとしたおまけがついてくるような感じで、うれしくなって帰れちゃいますよ。

One of the reasons for its popularity might be that a chief manager Hisashi Watanabe maintains the salon for a long time. He seeks to express himself in terms of beauty in his work place which also has a gallery, where many people gather around.
Please introduce yourself.
Hisashi Watanabe. Born in Bibai, Hokkaido in 1979. Currently I’m a manager of a hair salon Kamiya where I’ve worked for 10 years.
Why and how did you become a hair stylist?
I loved to do things using fingers since I was a kid. I used to make various things like drawing, sculpting, cooking, mimicking and thinking things I got interested in. In my preschool days, I remember I played with a bloom braiding. I think this was my first interest in hair styling.
And in my junior high school days, I paid strong attention to fashion and made my own clothing by cutting and sawing used-clothes I got in the second hand store or parents’ old clothes kept in the drawer for a long time. Such interest in making things naturally led me to work on hairstyles. I have always felt ease and enjoyed cutting hairs and the change appears to myself. In those days I decided to become a hairstylist in my future.
As I became a high school student, my dream to become a hairstylist got stronger, and used to cut hairs of friends of mine. I was totally into it because friends were very happy with the haircuts I enjoyed. During my high school days I did haircuts for about 60 people. During those days I got to know Kamiya where I currently work. As my older sister introduced the place, I started to visit the unique place where I’ve always felt excited. After high school, I went to a beauty school and ended up working as a manager of Kamiya by fate.
Could you tell us about Kamiya?
Kamiya is a loving salon like an oasis in the city. We’d like to make customers happy and we all enjoy working here.
There is another branch hair salon next to Kamiya: old wooden-built Kamiya and Hanare on the ground floor in the apartment building located in the next to Kamiya. Both salons are very cozy space where you can feel comfort with hand-made interiors.
At a corner of Kamiya there is an art gallery, Gallery New Star where mainly features a variety of art works created by young artists in Sapporo. We get inspired by works exhibited in the gallery and are pretty much enjoying it. Above all, I have experienced the connection between people and meeting many people in those 3 places.
Did you experience any changes in beauty/fashion scene in Sapporo during these 10 years?
Overall, I think the number of hip people increased. May be it’s because we can get enough information via internet and etc. So I think we don’t get feel border between places like Tokyo and Sapporo anymore.
Do you have anything you like to challenge in the future?
As a hair stylist, I’m always aware of bringing a bit of change in people’s mind and feeling by arranging hairs like adding a spice. It could be very simple way or be very unique. The change you can visualize is not just a change visually. The work of hair stylists is not only to make hairstyles: there I think are many opportunities more than that. I want to seek the opportunity and express it.
Could you share your favorite places in Sapporo?
Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park: As I like sounds of water like shower and shampooing at work, I like this park where you can enjoy rivers and water falls. In its huge site, you can find flower field, play grounds and place for park-golfing. Nice place for camping as there is a camping site.
Hanayasu Gallery Futagoyama: A nice flower shop located in the Futagoyama area.
As its name insists, it’s like gallery where is full of art mind both in the interior and exterior.
