Located in the old wooden-built white-painted house with massive stone made exterior wall, a hair salon Kamiya has been a hub for creative people whom many of them love the place重厚感ある石造りの外壁と白く塗られた古い木造の建物が印象的な美容室「華宮」は、1987年に札幌に店を構えて以来、多くの顧客に愛され、また常にクリエイティブに関心のある人が多く集まる場所となっている。
エントランスを入ると奥行きのあるスペースが心地良く広がり、スタッフ自らで壁、床、天井などに手を加えたという温かな空間がゲストを迎えてくれる。サロン内のユーズドの椅子や鏡、照明、什器などが古い建物の良さを更に引き出している。
華宮のある建物は、札幌では珍しい築80年にもなる木造建築３階建ての一軒家で、昔は学校として使われていたもの。更に建物の一部で外壁／内壁両方の用途で利用されているのが、明治時代から昭和初期に札幌や小樽で建築資材として用いられた札幌軟石という素材で、この建物のスパイスとなって、魅力的な外観を醸し出している。札幌軟石を使用した建築物を見学しにわざわざお店を見に来る人もいるそうだ。
同じ建物の一角にある一坪ほどの空間には、2002年にオープンした「ギャラリー・ニュースター」がある。華宮のオーナー、金田氏が美容室とは関係なく人が集まる場所を作りたくて生まれた場所だ。展覧会は２週間毎に入れ替わり、主に札幌拠点に活躍する若手アーティストの作品をみることができる。ニュースターの展示が華宮のスペースまで広がることもあるそうで、華宮店内にもアーチストの壁画ペイント作品を見ることができる。イベントも華宮／ニュースターともに不定期で開催している。
また、2007年には、華宮の隣に２店舗目となるサロン、華宮の「HANARE（はなれ）」がオープン。札幌市内の喧噪から離れ、小さなオアシスとしてゆったりとした素敵な時間を過ごすことができる。
2012年には、華宮オリジナル商品としてヘッドスパ、シャンプー、トリートメント、ヘアトニックのライン「KAMI HERB」をリリース。本当によいものは何か？と考え、無香料、無添加、オイルフリーの天然由来のオーガニックにこだわり、香りは天然精油使用で心身ともにリラックス効果もある。地元のアーティストの作品発表の場として考案された、定期的に変わるパッケージデザイン「ラベルアート」も要チェックだ。

As you go inside the entrance, you will be welcomed by the comfortable cozy space; the interior parts like walls, floors and ceilings are created by the salon staffs. Their selection of used chairs, mirrors, lighting and other furnishings draws the best of the old building.
The building is a 80-years-old, 3-storied, wooden house which is uncommon in the cold area, Sapporo. Formally the house was used as a school, now it is shared with other restaurants and Kamiya. Functioning as both interior and exterior wall for the house, the old stone wall is made out of a mine called Sapporo Nanseki, a kind of local stone that has used to be used as a building material in Sapporo and Otaru during the Meiji era (latter part of the 19th century) to the beginning of Showa era (the beginning of the 20th century). As a spice the stone gives an attractive look to the building as a whole.
In the corner of the salon, there is a small gallery space called Gallery Newstar opened in 2002. The owner of Kamiya, Mr. Kaneda had an idea to created a communicating space, besides the salon, for people come around. They showcases artworks of mainly Sapporo-based young artists for bi-weekly exhibitions, including paintings, illustrations, installations and once an artists did wall painting for Kamiya. They both offers various kinds of events irregularly. There is the 2nd salon Hanare, opened next to Kamiya in 2007.
