COLETTE NEWS OCTOBER ’05

COLETTEText: Linlee Allen

Former Aussie and now try-hard Parisien writer Linlee Allen wholly confesses to being the “all-round groupie” of concept store colette, located in the French capital. Having participated in the world-famous boutique’s range of events across the globe, whether it be performing in a radio show in Copenhagen, photographing guests at a party in Japan or being the first – and the last – one on the dancefloor at a CD launch party in New York, she relates to the colette way of life and here, lists her favourite finds from colette for the Autumn/Winter 05/06 season ahead.

THE NEISTAT BROTHERS
Video fever hits colette in october as our first-floor gallery space is taken over with works from the infamous brotherly-duo, the neistat brothers. Part-jackass/ part-revolutionaries, live and direct from new york city, casey and van neistat prepare to make their presence felt through an assortment of works and crafty inventions. For the vernissage (opening night of the exhibition) they will even arrive on motorbikes and perform a tap dance!

FAFI ‘IRINA’ FIGURINE
There’s nobody quite like Fafi. the paris-based graffiti artist (who originally comes from toulouse) recently created her first-ever figurine and has called it Irina. Today, in between painting, guest-speaking at art festivals (New York in September) and creating super-cool jackets with the brand dr. Romanelli (coming in october to colette) she’s trying to take it easy during the next couple of months as she awaits the birth of her first baby. Fafi is, simply, one of the most unique ladies in Paris and ‘Irina’ deserves a place on any girl’s mantelpiece of all things inspiring!

KAZUKO
Originally from Japan, NYC-based artist Kazuko has come a long way since stitching beads onto the veil featured in Madonna’s ‘Like a virgin’ music video back in the 80’s. Today her unique earrings, rings, cuffs, charms, necklaces and tiaras have a definite cult-following from those who recognise the energy-based healing powers of crytsals and semi-precious stones wrapped with gold wiring. With her hands and her heart, she attempts to create a sculpture with every piece. consider them pieces of art which are wearable jewels. We’re looking forward to meeting.

TSUBI BOOK
Tsubi aka the surfer/streetwear kings from Australia recently celebrated five years in the business and to celebrate have published a book documenting the highlights and experiences which have moulded them into what the brand represents today. A book signing is scheduled to take place downstairs in the water bar at colette on saturday October 8th from 4pm – 6pm. Can’t wait!
