The cultural offer of Helsinki has dramatically increased in the last couple of decades. The Design Week, Flow Festival, and the events and seminar organized through the year by Alvar Aalto University are perfect examples. Alvar Aalto’s ARTEK heritage is in the line of the German Romantic idea about “Gesamtkunstwerk”, or total work of art, which was important for Aalto, embracing architectural and industrial design with fine art.建築家、アルヴァ・アールトの影響により、フィンランドの建築、芸術、デザインは、常にモダニズムの動向と結びついている。フィンランド国立の「アテネウム美術館」は、1887年に設立され、1903年にはゴッホ作品を所有する世界で初めての美術館となった。

めざましサンド店Mezamashi Sandwich

Mezamashi Sandwich was opened in the east area of Sosei river in February, 2017. It is a new-styled store consisting of a cafe and a guesthouse, welcoming various visitors from locals to foreign travellers.創成川イーストエリアに、2017年2月に誕生した「めざましサンド店」。カフェとゲストハウスの２つの顔を持つ新しいスタイルの店舗で、地元のカフェ利用者から外国人旅行者まで、幅広い年代・国籍の人たちが訪れる。

Dance music producer, MATZ is drawing media’s attention even though he is only a teenager. He has just signed a contract with STARBASE and released his first EP, “Composite” on July 7th, 2017. Talking with him made me want to experience his “film-like” live set in the future.10代にして複数のメディアから注目を集めている北海道出身のトラックメイカー「MATZ」（マッツ）。STARBASE（スターベース）と契約し、2017年7月7日にデビューEP「Composite」（コンポジット）をリリースしたばかりの彼にインタビューを行うと、今年成人を迎え、やがて未来に実現するであろう“映画のような”ライブセットを体感してみたくなった。

テヅカヤマギャラリーTezukayama Gallery

“Tezukayama Gallery” collects contemporary art in the United States, Europe and Asia, and recently introduces mostly emerging young artists based in Japan. After opening in Tezukayama, Osaka in 1992, this gallery moved to Orange Street, a busy shopping area of about 800 meters full of cultural origins in Minamihorie, Osaka in 2010 as its current base.アメリカ、ヨーロッパ、アジアのコンテンポラリー・アートを取り扱い、近年は日本を拠点とする気鋭の若手作家を中心に紹介している「テヅカヤマギャラリー」は、1992年に大阪の帝塚山で開廊後、2010年に現在の拠点であり、大阪・南堀江の文化発信地として賑わう全長約800mの商店街「オレンジストリート」に移転した。

ヒロミ・タンゴHiromi Tango

Originally from Shikoku, Japan, Japanese-Australian artist Hiromi Tango has been living and working in Australia since 1998. Her works have been exhibited not only in Australia but also Singapore and Japan. We had an opportunity to ask her various questions about her ideas on her projects, collaboration works with Craig Walsh (who is her partner for both artistic creation and private life), some advice on traveling in Australia.四国出身で1998年からオーストラリア在住のアーティスト、ヒロミ・タンゴ。オーストラリアだけでなく、シンガポールや日本でも活動する彼女が、作品制作の上で興味のあるテーマや、夫であるアーティスト、クレイグ・ウォルシュとのコラボレーション、オーストラリアへの旅についての質問に答えてくれた。

“Puppet Theatre PUK” known for artistic puppet performances done for audiences of all ages was initially established as “Puppet Club” in 1929. Aside from Japanese traditional puppet performance such as Bunraku (the oldest group for Japanese puppet show). 子どもから大人まで楽しめる芸術性の高い人形劇の公演を行う「人形劇団プーク」は、1929年に「人形クラブ」として設立され、文楽などの伝統人形劇を除けば、日本最古の人形劇団となる。

ウェスト・クーロン文化地区West Kowloon Cultural District

Not long ago, “West Kowloon” was just the name of an area-the Western part of Hong Kong’s Kowloon peninsula, to be exact. Today, however, those two words mean so much more, as they have become a short-hand for the controversial “West Kowloon Cultural District.” The 40-billion dollar development project will transform a moribund industrial zone into an “Icon for Culture and Leisure”, comprising four museums, three theatres, a concert stadium, an outdoor water amphitheatre, a design school, hanging gardens, residential towers, office buildings, shopping malls, and more. If it ever gets past the drawing board, that is.つい最近まで「ウェスト・クーロン」は、香港の九龍半島西部という地域の名前でしかなかった。しかし、今では、この言葉は、話題となっているウェスト・クーロン文化地区の人手不足という意味を持つようになった。400億ドルもの開発プロジェクトが、停滞している産業地域を、４つの美術館、３つの映画館、コンサートスタジアム、屋外の円形プール、デザイン学校、空中庭園、高層ホテル、オフィスビル、ショッピングモールなどで成る「文化とレジャーのための地域」へと変化させようというものだ。

The art hub in Hong Kong was in Central area, mainly on Hollywood Road, for a long time due to the history as these are the area for exporting and foreigner’s residence. Since 2015, when the metro extended to west area, the artsy scenery shifted a bit from Central to the west.香港のアートシーンにおけるハブ的な役割は、これまでセントラル（中環）エリア、特に輸出業と外国人の居留地として長い歴史をもつ、ハリウッドロードがその中心となっていた。そんな中、2015年に地下鉄が香港島西側のエリアまで延伸し、同じ年に新たなアートの拠点として、ソーホー 189 アート・レーン（以下アート・レーン）がションワンのサイインプンにほど近いションワン（上環）エリアにオープンしたことで、香港のアートを取り巻く風景が西にも広がっていった。
