The collection itself is a cross-fertilization [3] of painting, printmaking, commercial art, photography, and other genres. It contains Pan Real Art Association’s Mikami Makoto, 800 works by post-war Gutai leader (and president of a commercial enterprise) Yoshihara Jiro, and printworks by Maeda Toshiro.

In addition, according to Takayanagi Yukiko, curator of the exhibition, the collection focuses on the artwork and related materials of Saeki Yuzo and his contemporaries, artworks and materials related to Osaka, art movements from the modern era to the present, design works and related materials. Collection highlights include Western-style painter Koide Narashige and founding members of the Shinanobashi Society of Western painting Nabei Katsuyuki and Kuroda Jutaro, works by Gutai Art Association Kanayama Akira, Tanaka Atsuko, and Shimamoto Shozo, Naniwa Photography Club, Tampei Photography Club, and nihonga (Japanese-style) painters Kitano Tsunetomi and Shima Seien.

Hirai Naoko, another Senior Curator, sees the museum’s opening not as a goal, but as a starting point. The museum exists through exhibitions and visitors. If the museum’s opening exhibition title, “Hello! Super Collection ― 99 untold stories,” has you wondering why they didn’t simply round up to 100, it’s because the last story is yours.
