DESIGNTIDE 2006

HAPPENINGText: Yurie Hatano

A live paint show by Atsushi Touyama & ASYL CLACK was held November 3rd in the afternoon. During the show they created a one of a kind tumbler and “resource can” (meaning the converse of a trash can).

Colleagues from ASYL CLACK directed Atsushi Touyama along well regarding his piece. Atsushi Touyama cut his paintings into pieces to use as decoration for each tumbler. The visitors were encouraged to decide which piece of the painting they wanted to have incorporated into the tumbler. Not surprisingly, each tumbler was sold quickly.

This is a photo of Mr. Sato from ASYL CLACK working on the “resource can.” A lot of visitors were interested in Mr. Sato’s creative paintings. It was not uncommon to hear visitors talking about and enjoying the art as the event moved along smoothly until the end. As a result of the show being exhibited near the entrance, many visitors stopped by.

Not only was the main building well organized, but other exhibition sites were well organized as well. There are many design events this time of year, but this particular event focused more on the “meaning of theme.” I would like this event to continue until we know why recycling needs to be expressed by design.
