LIVE EARTH JOURNEY: SHOJI KAWAMORI’S IMMERSIVE EXPLORATION OF LIFE AND TRANSFORMATION

HAPPENINGText: Sébastien Raineri

While Deep Vision and ANIMA! immerse the viewer in an immersive experience where the real and the virtual merge, Virtual EXPO “Adventures of Life” invites participants on a different kind of journey: a virtual journey where the exploration of oneself and one’s environment takes on a new dimension. Combining elements of virtual reality, interactive art, and philosophical reflection, this installation seeks to explore life in its most fundamental aspects. Indeed, Adventures of Life unfolds as a visual metaphor for transformation, connectivity, and the continuous evolution of existence.

The project is based on a simple yet profound concept: the exploration of life as a continuous cycle of transformation. Through a series of interactive and immersive sequences, viewers are invited to embark on a journey to the heart of life, both individual and collective. The concept is based on the idea that every living being is connected, that every action, every transformation is intrinsically linked to the entire living world. This link between different forms of life is explored with finesse, in an experience that goes beyond the boundaries of perception and reality.

The starting point of this journey is the Virtual Cell, a sort of mysterious gateway into the virtual universe. This virtual cell represents a starting point for each individual, a space where the viewer can discover objects and equipment specific to their adventure. This symbolic passage marks the beginning of the transformation, the initiation into the personal and universal quest that the installation promises.

As they progress, viewers arrive at the central element of the installation, the Sphere of Life. It is a virtual space in the shape of a floating sphere that symbolizes the totality of life in its diversity. Within this sphere, participants can observe the transformation of different life forms, human and animal creatures that metamorphose and interact, creating a fluid environment where each element contributes to the beauty and harmony of the whole. The experience in the Sphere of Life is intended to be participatory, and viewers themselves become actors in the world they explore.

One of the great strengths of “Adventures of Life” lies in its exploration of the relationship between the individual and the universe. Transformation is a collective phenomenon that unites us with everything around us. When viewers interact with the virtual environment, they participate in a game of infinite resonances, in which their own transformation impacts and is impacted by that of other participants.

Virtual EXPO “Adventures of Life” is therefore an invitation to reimagine life, not as a succession of separate events but as a continuous process of transformation and connection. Through this immersive experience, Shoji Kawamori and his team offer viewers a rare opportunity to experience this transformation from the inside out, merging technology, art, and philosophy in an experience where each individual becomes aware of their intimate connection with the entire living world.
