Valeria Pesqueira is a young Argentinean designer that has already captured the sensitivity of both Japanese and US markets and its main store is based in the heart of Palermo Soho, Buenos Airesヴァレリア・ペスケイラはブエノス・アイレスのパレルモ・ソーホーに本店をかまえるアルゼンチンのデザイナー。彼女のブランドはすでに日本やアメリカのマーケットを捕らえて放さない。
2001年に立ち上げられたブランド「ペスケイラ」は、穏やかかつ繊細、さらに楽しさを共存させたクラシック・エッジーなスタイルで、わたしたちを子供時代や家で過ごす快適さへの旅へと誘ってくれる。
最近の活動について教えてください。
ちょうどニューヨークでのADCアワードの審査員を終えてきたところよ。今はブエノスアイレスで2012年秋冬と、国外で2012年春夏のコレクションをそれぞれ展開中なの。
ニューヨークでは「バード」、「オープニング・セレモニー」で、日本では「ユナイテッド・アローズ」、「スープ・オブ・ハート」、「マーブル」、サンパウロの「アモレイラ」、チリの「ホール・セントラル」などの店でそれぞれ販売されているわ。
私たちのブランドで一番大切にしているのが「世界は君のもの」というスローガンよ。
ブエノスアイレスという街について教えてください。
ブエノスアイレスは私にとって本当にお気に入りの街よ。（笑）
国外で服を販売するようになってたくさんの国を旅行するようになったの。ホームタウンに戻るたびに、ここを選び続けているような気がするわ。例えば、ベルリンに行けば新鮮な気分を味わえるけど、それと同時に個性から距離を感じさせるような状況ができてしまうの。
このブランドでは良いデザインを心がけているし、他では見つけられないと思う。私たちは新人アーティストやアートスクールの学生を抱えているし、この国はかつて持続的な危機にあったから、自然に他の国よりよけいに自由を感じるわ。
失うものは何もないと思っているし、それがクリエイティブな人たちにとっては必要不可欠な考え方なの。
ブエノスアイレスでのあなた自身の過ごしかたについて教えてください。
朝起きたら、まずはコーヒーを飲みに「ファリネッリ」まで自転車に乗っていくわ。近所の人や昔一緒に働いていた人なんかと顔なじみなの。それから、パレルモ・ソーホーにあるショップの裏のスタジオで仕事。ランチには近所に昔からあるレストラン「エル・プレフェリード」か「フレッド＆ファーラー」でとるわ。６時まで仕事をしたら、近くにあるヨガスタジオへ通ってる。
それから、アート展覧会のオープニングへ行ったり、家に友達を呼んで食事をすることも。（友達のために料理するのが好きなの！）
たくさんの種類の生地や素材が揃わないブエノス・アイレスは、私の活動にとっては最適な街とはいえないけれど、だからこそ創造力を駆り立ててくれると思っているの。

Translation: Eiko Kondo. Founded Pesqueira in 2001, it is a place where a tender, naïf and joy full ambience lives together with a classic-edgy style that invites us to travel trough childhood and the comfort of feeling home.
How are you and what’s your recent activity?
I am super fine. I just arrived from NYC where I was invited to be jury for the Art Directors Club Design Awards 2012. Now I am presenting my autumn-winter ’12 collection in Buenos Aires & the spring-summer ’12 collection abroad. I actually sell in NYC at Bird & Opening ceremony, in Tokyo at United Arrows, Soup of heart & Marble, in Sao Paulo at Amoreira and in Chile at Hall central. Our dearest slogan in Pesqueira is THE WORLD IS YOURS.
What could you tell us about the city of Buenos Aires?
Buenos Aires is one of my favourites cities, and this is for real …haha. I have travelled a lot since I started to sell abroad. And each time when I come back to my town I feel I continue choosing it. Because for example I can feel we have the freshness of Berlin, but we also have the distance situation that makes us feel more away of everything and unique. We have good design and maybe you can’t find everywhere and we have awesome new artists & schools of art. As our country used to be in constant crissis we are more spontaneous and I think we feel more freedom that in other countries. We feel we doesn’t have too much to loose, for creative people this point of view is essential.
Please tell us about how is living in your city yourself and doing your activity there.
I wake up and bike to my favourite coffee place called Farnelli, there I can meet some friends that also worked or live nearby. Then I start my laboral day at my studio at the back of my store in Palermo Soho. For lunch I choose El Preferido or Freud & Fahler, two traditional restaurants of my neighborhood. I continue working and at 6 pm I go to my yoga class, also nearby. I also loved to go to art openings or to invite my friends to have dinner at my house (I love cooking for friends ). If I am going out for dinner I like Sudestada or parrilla La Brigada.
Doing my activity in Buenos Aires maybe is not the most comfortable situation in the world, because we don’t have lots of fabrics and resources but I think this js what make us be more creatives.
