Hong Konger creative director Michael Cheung. His works can be seen in the advertisements of “Nike” and “Coca-Cola”. His first exhibition “No Peace NP Boom” is now held at “Speak For Gallery” in Daikanyama, Tokyo.
I thought it is a graphic exhibition when I got a direct mail the first time. However, the exhibition place was full of colourful cloud-shaped-objects and they looked like real creatures. A mysterious atmosphere as if something was talking to me was there. According to a staff member, Cheung’s message “So long as “Peace” is in this world, “Boom” is also there” puts on every work.
Cheung received inspirations from historical events, such as the disaster in NY or a mushroom cloud, and they are used to express his world.
Also, a horn-like-part, which is attached to all works, implies that you can definitely find a hope even though in a terrible situation. This part looked as if it moves just now and I thought it works to put life into a work. Moreover, it is great that these objects function as a coffee table of a chair rather than just an object. The exhibition will move on to Paris and be held at Colette at the beginning of 2003.
