横浜中華街Yokohama China Town

One of the must-visit spot to eat in Yokohama is Yokohama China Town. There are more than 200 Chinese restaurants where offer various kinds of cuisines including Cantonese, Shanghai, Beijing横浜観光には欠かせないグルメスポット「横浜中華街」。広東料理をはじめ、上海、北京、四川料理など200軒以上の中国料理店の他、手相・占いの有名店、チャイナドレスや輸入雑貨店などが並び、その充実ぶりは１日中いても飽きないほどだ。
横浜中華街の始まりは1859年、横浜開港にともない多くの中国人商人や労働者が居留地の一角に集まり住み、形成されたことによる。関東大震災や日中戦争、大空襲など歴史的にも様々な出来事の影響を受けながら復興と発展を繰り返してきた中華街は、その後1960年代の高度成長、横浜港周辺の開発により、観光地としての地位を確立。2004年には年間来訪者数が2100万人を越えたともいわれ、東アジア最大の中華街となった。
主な観光名所は、風水に基づいて建てられた10基の牌楼や、三国志で有名な関羽が祀られている「関帝廟」、海の安全や健康、縁結びにご利益があるとされる「媽祖廟」など。また毎年、旧暦のお正月である春節には中華街全域にイルミネーションと提灯が飾られ、光で浮き上がった街中を獅子舞がまわり、１年のなかで最も華やかな横浜中華街の姿を見ることができる。

Yokohaama China Town was established since 1859, when a lot of Chinese merchants and workers started to live in the foreign settlement due to opening a port in Yokohama. With the development of Yokohama area and the high-growth in the 60’s the town has established the position as a touristic spot. In 2004 the annual number of visitors went over more than 21 million, and became the biggest China town in the Eastern Asia region.
In the Chinese New Year, you can enjoy looking at the traditional Chinese lion dancing in the illuminated whole town with lanterns, which will be the best season to visit in a year.
