The Design by Katri/n shop first opened in 2010 and in 2012 moved to its current location on a street famous for shopping, eating and drinking; Iso Roobertinkatuデザイン・バイ・カトゥリ/エヌは、2010年にオープンした後、2012年に現在の場所であるショッピングや飲食を楽しめるイソローベルティンカトゥ通りに移転した。このブランドのデザイナーであるカトゥリ・ニスカネンは、2009年の初めてフィンランド・プロジェクト・ランウェイで受賞し、それ以降彼女のイブニングドレスは、活躍しているミュージシャンを中心に国内外に知られるようになった。
ヘルシンキの彼女の店が位置するのは、買い物客や食事をする人が行き交う絶好のロケーションだ。さらにデザイン地区ということもあり、フィンランドの有名デザイナーやアーティストの作品を目当てに多くのアーティスティックな人々が訪れる。近くにはミューン、ギャラリー・ヘイノ、そしてデザイン・バイ・カトゥリ/エヌの商品も取扱っているデザイン・フォーラム・フィンランドからもそう遠くはない。シンプルな内装の店内には、どこを見ても美しい洋服が見に飛び込んでくる。外観の窓にはハートが飾られ、そこにカトリの名前も見つける事ができる。
デザイン・バイ・カトゥリ/エヌはトゥルクやタンペレなどフィンランド国内に留まらず、イギリスのポップ・ザ・ファッション・ストアでも取扱われるなど、アパレル業界に新鮮なインパクトを与えてきた。またオンラインショップでは、過去２年間のコレクションから多くの商品を見ることができ、ショッピングも可能だ。

Text: Mike Sullivan. The designer for this label is Katri Niskanen, she won the first Finnish Project Runway competition in 2009 and has achieved recognition nationally, and internationally, for her evening dresses as well as for her work being chosen by leading music artists.
Her shop in Helsinki is in a excellent location on a street popular with pedestrians looking to shop or eat, furthermore as it is in the Design District it benefits from the many artistic minded people who come to Helsinki just to sample the work of Finland’s famous designers and artists. Nearby you will find Miun shop, Gallery Heino and it is also not far away from Design Forum Finland which also stocks Design by Katri/n products. The inside of the shop is simply decorated which immediately draws the eye to the beautiful clothes which are displayed on either side of the shop as well as in the centre, meanwhile the outside has been well designed with a series of hearts on the window which also form a shape of a heart within which you find Katri’s name.
Design by Katri/n has had a clear impact as the clothing range can be found in a range of shops within Finland, such as Turku, Tampere, and can also be bought in the UK at POP The Fashion Store. In addition the online store allows you to see all of the fashion collections from the last couple of years as well as buy clothes online.
Fashion design is a tough industry with many new labels and designers striving to be at the forefront of a explosion of talent which has been coming out of Finland, Katri Niskanen brings together elegance and cutting edge fashion design in a way which has proven to be popular and it is this popularity which will ensure that she continues doing her great work and makes her name one to be watched in future.
